Welcome

... to LA's new big vocal band.

We aim to do a huge variety of funky stuff, big on horn sections and rhythm sections. Think back to Tower of Power, Sly and the Family Stone, Earth, Wind and Fire, but also a bit more current and rocked out like the Red Hot Chili Peppers and Pink, or in a modern pop groove such as Watcha Say by Jason Derulo. But there are no instruments in this mixed voice, contemporary a cappella ensemble.

We are currently looking for high sopranos and vocal percussionists to audition throughout this Spring 2010. To cover all the parts in our arrangements, we plan to grow, from 18 up to 20 or so members.

This will be a challenging and creative adventure. We plan to be an active voice in the Venice community as well as the a cappella community, as we are one of two Los Angeles region groups in the Contemporary A cappella League (CAL), a part of the Contemporary A cappella Society CASA.org.

Not all of the songs will be big complex arrangements. We will learn, perform and record a variety songs with rhythm being our key feature. Still we will do some Beatles, and other popular favorites.

Once we get our groove foundation, we plan to do plenty of original work. We will encourage all members to write originals. For more details on our repertoire, see here.

Arrangements we're currently working on ...

Missing by Everything But The Girl

Naked in the Rain by Red Hot Chili Peppers

Hey Pocky Way by The Meters/Neville Bros.

Watcha Say by Jason Derulo, which is derived from the bridge section of Imogen Heap's Hide and Seek. We do the intro and outro from Hide and Seek, Joseph Bate's arrangment.

A Depeche Mode Medley, starting off with Just Can't Get Enough, People are People, Master and Servant, and Everything Counts; note that we're doing those songs in a bit of a historical order, and we'll eventually end the medley with something off their current album.

Superwoman by Alicia Keys, arranged by Dianna

SOS/Tainted Love by Rihanna, SoftCell/Pussycat Dolls, arranged by Michelle
